Early Childhood Education
Kamatz [קמצ] operates 4 nursery and kindergarten programs for ages 2-6. The nursery programs are located in a building adjacent to the synagogue and the kindergarten is located nearby. Each program has between 22-28 children; the size of the classes is age adjusted and each class is staffed by 2-4 people, one of whom is a kindergarten teacher.
The entire staff receives training from both the Ministry of Education as well as from the Movement for Progressive Judaism in Israel. The latter focuses it’s training on Jewish holidays and customs, as well as the different values of the Movement; e.g. the relationship between man and his environment, and equality for all peoples. The early childhood education frameworks are managed by a broad educational staff that has been specifically trained in the unique content of Kamatz’s agenda; the rabbi of the community is involved, and the classes receives office support from the synagogue office.
The staff of each class is devoted, experienced and professional, seeing each child as an individual and does their utmost to allow each girl and boy to achieve their potential. A typical day includes morning prayers, free play, circle time, group work, outdoor play, and individual work with each child. In the kindergarten class children are also prepared for first grade. Each class also participates in regularly scheduled special activities such as movement, music, meetings with animals, etc.

Progressive Jewish values find expression in different ways; activities with the children’s families, such as grandparent’s day, a workshop to make kippot, holiday celebrations in the synagogue, and other activities. In addition, children and their parents are invited to participate in synagogue activities such as hakafot on Simchat Torah, the reading of the Megila on Purim and more.
Registration for the 2012-13 school year will be held during the last week of January 2012. Children whose families are members of the congregation receive priority.
Director of the Nursery and Kindergarten programs. Efrat Reches.
