Rabbi Maya Leibovitch
The head of Kehilat Mevasseret Zion is Rabbi Maya Leibovitch. Rabbi Leibovitch is the first woman rabbi ordained in Israel by the Hebrew Union College, the academic institution in Jerusalem for the Movement for Progressive Judaism in Israel. As a native Israeli Rabbi Leibovitch expresses her love of Jewish tradition, the Land of Israel, spirituality, traditional Jewish and modern Israeli literature in her involvement in the current Israeli scene.



Yaron Shavit

Yaron Shavit
Born in Israel, married to Michal and the father of Yochai and Ya'ara.
Yaron Shavit grew up in Hod-Hasharon and is a senior officer in the Israeli reserve army.
Yaron has a bachelor's degree in law from Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a master's degree from Bar-Ilan University in Tel-Aviv, and today is a partner in a law firm.
He is a resident of Mevasseret Zion since 1996 and a member of Kehilat Mevasseret Zion since 1998.
His family was first exposed to the congregation at the High Holiday services and then became members for the Bar Mitzvah of his son Yochai. In his footsteps, also read from the Torah his brothers Hava and Yiftach and Ya'ara.
Yaron studied for two years in Beit Midrash classes, and in recent years he has been active in the Management Committee for Kehilat Mevasseret Zion.



Committees

Managing Committee

Consists of 8 members. Chairperson: Adv. Yaron Shavit. Convenes once a month and discusses various topics on the agenda.

The members of this committee are:

  • Yaron Shavit: Lives in Little Motza (Motza Ketana), married and the father of three children. Attorney and partner in a Tel-Aviv law firm and has been a member of the Managing Committee for the last four years. Was first exposed to the congregation at the High Holiday services and then became members for the Bar Mitzvah of his son Yochai.
  • Avihai Rosenthal: Lives in Mevasseret Zion, married and the father of three children, a member of the congregation since its beginning in the early 1990s. Work in various management capacities. In addition serves as the treasurer for the congregation.
  • Boaz Buki: Lives in Mevasseret Zion, married and the father of one child. Elected to a second term as a member of the Managing Committee. Among his occupations: Artistic photography, project contracting and management. Is active in managing the kindergartens.
  • Sue Lazerus: Lives in Mevasseret Zion 22 years and has been connected with the congregation since its inception. Maintains an egalitarian and pluralistic approach to the meaning of objects (prayers, faith, 'laws') in light of the realities of life in the 21st Century. The mother of two daughters and is employed as a lawyer.
  • Yishai Sa'ar Lives in Beit Zeit and is employed as an architect. Was a member of the Building Committee in its early years, and we are pleased with the renewal of his activity.
  • Judy Admon: Lives in Mevasseret Zion, married and the mother of three adult children. A member of the congregation since its inception and very active in many areas. Cares for diabetics in hospital on a private basis.
  • Shmulik Zaksenberg: Lives in Mevaseret Zion, works in tourism, married with four children. Joined the congregation for the Bar Mitzvah of his son. Elected to a second term as a member of the Managing Committee.
  • George Greenwald: Electrical engineer and a member of the congregation since its inception. Gabai and in charge of synagogue security, and is the 'soul' of the synagogue.

Other Committees

Comptroller Committee

5 members: Yigal Rapheli, Dan Canaan, Andrew Abir, Yehudit Assif, Malcolm Admon (observer). Meets once a month to examine the decision-making procedures and performance of the congregation's management in its various capacities.

Manpower Committee

3 members: Meets as required to deal with the manpower needs of the congregation.

Membership Committee

5 members: Deals with topics such as the membership in the congregation and relations with other congregations.

Newsletter Committee

3 members: Deals with the production and distribution of the congregation's newsletter and drafting members to write in it.

Fundraising Committee

6 members: Meets as required to deal with the fundraising and finding other resources for the congregation in Israel and abroad.

Education Committee

Deals with developing preschool and adult education, and with liaison between the congregation and the families of the children in the preschool classes.

Culture Committee

Deals with cultural activities of the congregation.

Religion Committee

Deals with issues such as how the prayer services are conducted and how holidays and other occasions are observed.

High Holidays Committee

An Ad Hoc committee that deals with organization of the synagogue before and during the High Holiday period.

Finance Committee

4 members: Meets once a month and is responsible for all financial and monetary activities of the congregation.
